Swamp tour!!

Jen and I took a swamp tour today. A couple of firsts for us both to see a swamp/bayou from a small boat complete with alligators but also riding in an air boat. Big motor (600hp) and a shallow flat bottom boat, that can run in as little as 1″ of water. Lots of bird life and of course alligators!!

Reve is the place to get a good coffee in Lafayette. Not maybe the best roast, but well made with care…

Social southern restaurant – Lafayette, LS

Jen picked a great restaurant in Lafayette! We had a hangar steak that was excellent with salad and burger. The surprise and kicker for this place it is one of the top bourbon bars in America for 9 years running. There are pages of different bourbon’s available by the pour, which is 1.5 oz. some for as much as $150! While I do enjoy a good bourbon, my tastes are not that refined!

Spaced – Houston, TX

We took a tour of the Johnson space centre, always a good visit! A full size actual 747 the one used to move the shuttle is on the grounds with a shuttle trainer mounted, we walked through both. For me was the tour of mission control was my highlight. It was recreated to the day Apollo landed on the moon. Displays were the same on every screen and we listened to the actual audio. If you look closely you see rotary phones and ashtrays everywhere full of butts. They lit quickly but taste a little stale…

Wooden boats

We are in Port Townsend and explored the world class wooden board shop built a few years ago. Open to the public and rentable if you want to build or repair your wooden boat this is a beautiful place to spend a few hours snooping around. It doesn’t hurt that the same building houses the Velocity coffee shop, which is probably the best in town!

Verve

Santa Cruz has good coffee at Verve. They roast their own and have several coffee shops throughout the town and we tried them all!

Guard dogs…

“Ashton the Brave” is the little guys new moniker. All who know Ashton recognize him as the friendly dog who loves everyone dog and person. The night before last we were wakened by Ashton barking, well 2 barks actually. This alone is pretty remarkable considering he hardly ever barks. Coming out of sleep I was just about to get stern with him, when I realized there was someone at our door. The beach, funk hotel we are staying at is on a road that goes to the beach and we have a steep staircase to our room. Someone was on the stairs and Ashton was guarding. He has a good bark so whoever it was didn’t stick around! Gooooooooood dooooooooooog!!
